Dragonflight & the Sky Trial
Quick answers
- How do you get a dragon in Iron Realms?
- Dragons hatch from eggs found through play. A hatchling grows through combat stages that unlock new abilities, can be fitted with dedicated dragon gear, and can duel other players' dragons.
- Is Iron Realms free to play?
- Yes. Iron Realms is free to play in any browser with no download and no account required. Every building, troop tier and Seat of Power is reachable without spending money — purchases buy speed and cosmetics, never a higher ceiling.
- Does spending money make you stronger in Iron Realms?
- No. Nothing purchasable raises your power ceiling. A charter audit runs on every build and fails it if any offer would sell power. Spending compresses time: the summit takes about 24 months free, or 18 months with the $9.99 monthly Charter held throughout.
- How long does it take to max a keep in Iron Realms?
- About 24 months of free play at roughly half an hour a day, or 18 months with the $9.99 Warden's Charter. Keeps cap at level 45 and troops at tier 13 — the same summit for everyone.

The genre always shows the dragon; Iron Realms hands you the reins. From the world map's Take flight launcher you range the realm on the wing — two modes, one saddle. Your wyrm handles like a real thing: it banks up to 0.55 radians, climbs at 9 a second, and holds between altitude 4 and 55 at anywhere from 2.2 to 7.5 speed.
Survey the realm
A calm, free-ranging flight over the actual continent — the same Westeros your keeps sit on, seen from above. The map is divided into an 8×8 survey grid, and the maesters pay 3 renown per distinct land charted.
The bounty needs at least 5 lands to pay anything and caps at 20, so a single good circuit collects the lot. There is no reason to grind it — fly a wide loop once, take your 60 renown, and land.
The Sky Trial
A dodging run: the sky fills with ice spires and storm cells streaking at your wyrm, and you weave left, right, up and down to survive. The difficulty is not flat — it ramps over 90 seconds. Hazards start spawning at 1.6 and tighten to 0.42, and the gaps you thread narrow from 26 down to 62 as the run goes on.
What a run pays
- Up to 300 dragon experience — the real prize, and the fastest honest route to your dragon's next growth stage.
- Up to 40 renown
- Up to 12 gems
Rewards scale with survival time and cap at 120 seconds, with a 5-second floor below which a run pays nothing. Two minutes is the whole payout — a great run and a legendary one reach the same ceiling, skill just gets there faster. That cap is what keeps the Trial a daily highlight rather than something you are obliged to grind.
Surviving the ramp
- The first 90 seconds are the difficulty curve; the last 30 before the cap are the hard part. Ration your nerve accordingly.
- Use the full altitude band. Most players fly flat and dodge sideways, which throws away half the sky.
- Speed is yours to choose — slowing to 2.2 buys reaction time in the late run at the cost of ground covered.
